⛺Whose Campus? Our Campus⛺
As Minouche Shafik prepares to testify in Congress, CUAD launches a student encampment calling for an immediate divestment of Columbia's funds from genocide. Join our movement, divest now!
Early this morning, Columbia students took back the East Butler Lawns to establish the Gaza Solidarity Encampment in support of the demand for an immediate end to Columbia's complicity in genocide. Also today, Minouche Shafik will go before Congress (on Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, no less) to boast about her record of collaborating with the NYPD and FBI on campus to repress calls for Palestinian liberation in an attempt to save her job.
Our encampment will remain until Columbia University divests all finances, including the endowment, from corporations that profit from Israeli apartheid, genocide, and occupation in Palestine. We demand they ensure further accountability through complete financial transparency of all Columbia's investments.
In addition, CUAD reiterates its demands for the academic boycott of Israel, an end to displacement both here in Harlem and in Palestine, an end to the repression on campus, and an unequivocal statement for a permanent ceasefire.
BUILD WITH US
We inherit a tradition of social justice activism on this site, that stretches from the protests against war and racism of 1968, to the fight against South African apartheid in 1985, to the Ethnic Studies Demonstrations of 1995.
At this historical moment, we call on all of you to show up. To witness the possibility of a different world. To deliver sustenance and moral support to the threshold of our encampment. To speak to your peers, your parents, and your professors about this cause. To amplify us from afar.
In the days to come, if we are able to hold our ground against the crackdown that we hope will not come, despite the relentless escalation of repression in recent weeks, we will use this space to hold teach-ins, vigils, art builds, prayers… Follow us on Instagram for updates about programming!
We repeat to you what we said before the Al-Shifa solidarity rally, what you proved to be true: our safety is in our numbers.
SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY!
As a supporting student, it is imperative that you follow CUAD's safety guidelines, especially considering the worsening campus repression:
Conceal identifiable features, such as hair or clothing, with masks or a kuffiyeh.
Do not remove your masks or other such accessories until you are far from campus.
CU identifies you by following you on CCTV footage from a card access terminal to a protest. We strongly recommend that you avoid tapping your CUID in the hour before or after any action.
After a protest, exit CCTV range before returning to your normal activities on campus.
They read your Columbia email. Act accordingly.
If you are interested in participating in the encampment, please email cuapartheidivest@gmail.com from a non-CU email or speak to an onsite organizer to be informed of the possible risks.
UPCOMING ACTIONS
Come march against the largest landholder in NYC, Columbia University, in the March Against Displacement on April 20th, meeting at 3PM at United Palace in Washington Heights. Columbia is financially invested in weapons companies used against our families in Palestine and they have made profit off of the genocide of our people. They’re financially invested in the nypd and brutalizing Black and Brown communities in Harlem. Their colonization efforts in Palestine and Harlem are connected. Hope to see you all there! ❤️🇵🇸
You can also find more events and opportunities to participate through our action calendar.
Forever in solidarity,
Palestine will be free!
